Sarah Burgess

Sarah began highland dancing at the age of 7 under the instruction of Heather Calkin in New Zealand and competed as a Premier dancer for over four years before moving to Perth in 2011.

She has competed at a national and international level, placing in the top six of several championships including the Western Australia State Championship, Auckland City of Sails Open Championship, and the International Highland Dancing Championship. Sarah is now semi-retired as a competitive dancer, focussing on choreography performances and sharing her passion with a new generation of dancers.

Sarah became a Highland Hustle instructor in early 2018 and is a full member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) and the Victoria Scottish Dancing Association (VSDA).

Sarah completed her Bachelor of Psychology with Honours in 2016 and uses these skills to build strong, resilient dancers. She has a passion for sports psychology, receiving distinction on her thesis relating to coaching behaviours and the influence they have on the self-esteem and perceived performance of athletes. Sarah continues her work in Psychology, currently completing her Masters in Industrial and Organisational Psychology.
